Darwish: Arise

An Anthology of Ismaili Literature: A Shi’i Vision of Islam, 2008

Abstract:

Ismaili traditions of devotional poetry continued to flourish after the Mongol conquests, although much of it has been little known until recently. An Ismaili poet of the time wrote under the pen-name Darwish. In the poem “Arise,” translated here, he calls upon believers to forgo the seductions of the world and arise to serve ‘the Lord of the Age,’ the Imam Gharib Mirza.
